Families Like Ours: Navigating Sustainable, Loving Futures
Families Like Ours is a 6-week virtual cohort for families with Williams syndrome who are ready to move beyond pressure, uncertainty, and the feeling of having to “doing it all.”
Through guided conversation, reflection, and practical tools, participants will build greater clarity, strengthen family relationships, and create more sustainable systems of support. The program centers self-determination, supported decision-making, dignity of risk, and interdependence—so every family member can grow, contribute, and thrive.
-
We begin by identifying the strengths, concerns, hopes, and questions each family member brings. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of their family’s patterns and establish a foundation for connection, reflection, and empathy.
Outcome: Participants develop greater insight into their family dynamics and identify opportunities for open, respectful communication.
-
Participants examine where they feel overextended— personally, professionally, and emotionally. They will distinguish between caregiving responsibilities, crisis-driven roles, and the relationships and activities they want to preserve or strengthen.
Outcome: Participants clarify what is draining their energy, what matters most, and where responsibilities can be adjusted or shared.
-
Self-determination belongs to every member of the family. This session explores each person’s right to make choices, pursue meaningful goals, and live a purpose-driven life.
Outcome: Participants identify ways to expand choice, agency, and purpose for themselves and their loved ones.
-
Participants explore the shift from deciding for a loved one to deciding with them. Together we will consider how to support voice, choice, growth, and dignity–even when risk or uncertainty is involved.
Outcome: Participants gain practical strategies for supporting informed choices while respecting autonomy and dignity.

Family members create a practical “web of support” for the future. This process helps shift responsibility away from one person and toward a broader network of extended family, friends, professionals, and community allies.
Outcome: Participants leave with a clearer map of current and potential supports, along with priorities for strengthening that network.
Session date and registration coming soon.
-
We bring the learning together through reflection, resource-sharing, and personal planning. Each participant will identify meaningful next steps for moving forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Outcome: Participants create a personal commitment plan that supports them in remaining loving, long-term partners without losing themselves in the process.
